U.N. Ocean Conference

June 5-9, 2017

From June 5-9, 2017, the high-level United Nations Conference to support the implementation of Sustainable Development Goal 14: Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development convened at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City. SOA sent 3 youth delegates to participate in the Conference. The major themes included sustainable fisheries, renewable ocean generated energy, coral reef restoration, mitigating climate change, and marine protected areas.


World Ocean Festival

As a precursor to the United Nations Ocean Conference, which began on June 5th, SOA partnered with the World Ocean Festival to lead a public event to #SaveOurOceans. A collective voice of boaters, sailors and friends joined to participate in a once in a lifetime event showing our love for our oceans and waterways. Speakers included Peter Thomson, President of the General Assembly, United Nations, Dr. Sylvia Early, Founder, Mission Blue, and Daniela Fernandez, Founder & CEO, Sustainable Oceans Alliance.

Blue Vision Summit

Every two years, the Blue Vision Summit, sponsored by the Blue Frontier Campaign, brings ocean conservation leaders together to network, build the blue movement, and meet with the Administration and Congress to restore the blue in our red, white, and blue. SOA Founder & CEO Daniela Fernandez gave her keynote address following "her deepness," Dr. Sylvia Earle, Fouder, Mission Blue. The Summit also hosts the Peter Benchley Ocean Awards, which Daniela Fernandez is a past winner of.
